Spanish marine energy company EnerOcean S.L. has officially commissioned a 1:6 scaled prototype of its integrated wind turbine platform off the Canary Islands. The floating platform was launched at the ASTICAN shipyard dock where it went through some initial testing and commissioning.

The
W2Power project aims to demonstrate the fully-integrated offshore wind floating platform. W2Power features a semi-submersible floating foundation platform, with two integrated wind turbines and a platform with a ladder for servicing. The prototype will be installed at the PLOCAN site 30km off the coast of the canary islands when a weather window opens up.

EnerOcean will coordinate the project, with support from Ghenova for naval engineering works and for the coordination of sea testing. Ingeteam supported the project with electrical engineering, and TensionTech provided mooring solutions.

EnerOcean claims that the solution can feature two turbines up to 6MW each. It also stated that the solution offers reduced costs, compared to floating foundations or traditional fixed foundations, due the materials used in its construction.
