Virginia push to become country choice

ØrstedThe Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) has posted a Request For Proposals (RFP) from qualified contractors to develop a plan to position Virginia as the East Coast offshore wind supply chain and service industry location of choice.

This RFP, issued in the 21st of May, seeks experience in offshore wind (OSW) development, particularly where that knowledge can relate to the industry supply chain, port infrastructure requirements, build-out of the various OSW supply chain sectors, and long-term maritime service needs.

The work product that the successful applicant (Contractor) produces in accordance with the RFP will inform OSW development firms, the Virginia maritime industry, and state and local decision-makers.

The contractor will develop a report analysing the State's maritime infrastructure and assests, as well as identifying how to leverage them, and provide recommendations on alleviating barriers.

The analysis will build upon surveys performed on Virginia's ports to assess their readiness to host manufacturing and fabrication activities in the 2015 Virginia Offshore Wind Port Readiness Evaluation with the aim to confirm and also update the evaluation

The DMME hope that the final report will help connect industry members to the maritime industry located in Hampton Roads. Even saying, "Hampton Roads has what it takes to become the hub for offshore wind power development along the east coast."
