Sif begins manufacturing for major offshore wind project in New York

Sif has commenced production of monopile foundations for the Empire Wind 1 project, following the signing of a power purchase agreement between Equinor and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

This milestone marks significant progress in the development of one of America's first offshore wind farms.

The Empire Wind 1 project, which aims to supply renewable energy to approximately 500,000 homes in New York, will receive 54 monopiles and transition pieces from Sif. Production of these components is set to begin in July 2024 at Sif's new factory located on the Maasvlakte site.

Currently, the first steel plates for the project have arrived at Maasvlakte, and the initial transition piece is under manufacture in Roermond. Sif expressed pride in contributing to this groundbreaking project and anticipates commencing monopile production in the new facility next summer.
