Ramboll has announced a recent appointment which aims to expand its offshore wind team in Poland. Operating from Ramboll’s new office in Gdynia, Janusz Czajkowski will act as a key local manager on Ramboll’s offshore wind projects.

His main task will be to strengthen Ramboll’s position and facilitate growth in the Polish offshore wind sector, which also includes building up a dedicated local engineering and advisory team. Janusz has previously been member of the board of offshore projects, upgrades and conversions affairs at Remontowa SA.

“There is a huge potential in the Polish offshore wind market. We would like to capitalize on that potential and bring the best of Ramboll to the market. At the same time, we are well into the particular local requirements. This is the perfect moment to expand our team and welcome Janusz onboard to initiate growth of a local offshore wind team in Poland”,
said Tim Fischer, Ramboll’s Global Director for Offshore Wind.

Ramboll has worked with offshore wind in Poland for several years, securing several design and advisory contracts across the market. The newly created offshore wind team will operate from two offices in Gdynia and Warsaw and will be embedded in Ramboll’s Polish entity, a team that has worked in the Polish energy and environmental sector since 1990.

“I am delighted to be joining Ramboll and support developing offshore wind projects in Poland as they are one of the most necessary and important ventures to counteract climate change”,
commented Janusz Czajkowski.

In January 2021, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda signed the country’s Offshore Wind Act into law which came into force and completed the legislative process. The legislation allows for 10.9 GW of offshore wind capacity to be either operational or under development by 2027.

Poland is progressing the development of offshore wind under the Offshore Act, which regulates the method of obtaining public support by investors interested in building offshore wind farms in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea. The Act provides up to 5.9 GW allocated by CfD in 2021 and a 2.5 GW CfD auction in 2025 and 2027. Projects will have a 7-year award-to-generation deadline, meaning 10.9 GW generating power by 2034. The government plans to launch further support phases in 2025 and 2027, both 2.5 GW, leading to 11 GW by 2040.

Back in April,
RWE secured a CfD for its 350 MW FEW Baltic II whilst Ørsted and PGE secured CfDs for the Baltica 3 and Baltica 2 offshore wind farms with a total capacity of up to 2.5 GW. This was followed by news last week, it was announced that Equinor and Polenergia’s Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III projects were awarded CfDs.

Earlier this month, Poland’s Energy Regulatory Office approved a Contract for Difference of the
Baltic Power offshore wind farm being developed by PKN ORLEN and Northland Power.
