The Norwegian Ministry of Energy has proposed a new support scheme for floating offshore wind projects in the Vestavind B and Vestavind F areas, including Utsira Nord. This proposal, now open for consultation, is essential for securing state aid necessary for these projects.

Energy Minister Terje Aasland emphasized the significance of this development: "We are one step closer to developing floating offshore wind on the Norwegian continental shelf. This will greatly boost renewable power production and provide the supplier industry with new opportunities."

The revised scheme includes updated cost estimates and outlines various options for land allocation and competition for state support. It also details the necessity of supporting offshore wind development.

"Offshore wind in Norway is pioneering work," Aasland said. "The government has prioritized this since my tenure began, maintaining a close dialogue with all stakeholders. We are continuing this productive dialogue."

The government aims to allocate 30 GW of offshore wind by 2040, with the next tender round set for 2025. The Ministry of Energy plans to finalize the support program for Vestavind B and Vestavind F by the end of 2024, enabling tenders to proceed in 2025.

The consultation period ends on 23 August 2024.
