MAATS cable laying product patented

MAATS recently received a patent for their new product, Vessel Enabler.

Vessel Enabler is a modular chute that enables high tension horizontal cable lay in deep water, eliminating the need for a vertical lay tower or vertical lay system.

It also states that the product can be mobilised onto any vessel stern shape, including vessels of opportunity. This product is specifically aimed at deep water cable lay projects, and MAATS say it is currently engaged with a customer to design a 100te version.

MAATS states the main benefit of the product is that no point loads are introduced to the cable throughout the transition to the vertical. It is anticipated the first unit will be in manufacture by the end of 2018.

MAATS, a British based company, is a supplier of cable lay and flex lay vessel carousels and deck spread equipment globally. Having supplied over 50 carousel and deck spread and deployment systems since 1987.
