IdeolThe French consortium, EolMed, has exceeded its target amount in a crowdfunding campaign.

EolMed is planning on developing the first offshore wind farm in the Mediterranean. It has planned to fund part of the project through a crowdfunding campaign. This was started on the 22nd of May 2018 and in three days, it has already exceeded its objective of €300,000. It now has 41 days remaining to reach the maximum amount of €400,000.

The part of the project the consortium is aiming to crowdfund is the financing of a floating LiDAR

The minimum donation available is €10, from there it is possible to donate anywhere between the minimum up to €2500. The campaign is only available to inhabitants of the Occitanie Region until the end of June. It will then be open to all who wish to donate.

The EolMed project plans to develop a four-turbine offshore wind farm in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Gruissan in the Aude region. Each turbine is proposed to have a capacity of 6.2MW and will be installed on floating concrete foundations.

This array, with a total capacity of 24.8MW, will be capable of producing nearly 100,000kWh per year. This equates to the annual electricity consumption of 50,000 inhabitants.
