The European Commission has approved the draft decree that promotes the construction of production plants from renewable sources that are not fully mature or have high operating costs, the so-called FER2.

The objective of the intervention is to incentivise the creation of a capacity of 4.6 GW of plants by 31 December 2028, including: off-shore wind plants, zero-emission geothermal plants, traditional geothermal plants, powered by biomass and biogas, floating photovoltaic on inland and offshore waters, as well as tidal, wave and other forms of marine energy systems and thermodynamic solar systems.

Minister Gilberto Pichetto states the following: "The Commission's green light is an important step forward towards our energy objectives, which comes after a long and constructive discussion with the European institutions. This highly anticipated provision will enable new technologies that are fundamental for decarbonisation."

The text will now be brought to the attention of the concerted Ministers for signature, in order to be transmitted to the Court of Auditors for registration and subsequent publication. Within thirty days from the date of publication, the Operational Rules will then be issued by decree of the Ministry to make the measure fully operational.
