Edison joins forces with Blunova for major offshore wind project

Edison has announced a partnership with Blunova SpA (Carlo Maresca Group) to co-develop a 975 MW floating offshore wind power project off the coast of Pozzallo in Sicily. Edison has acquired a 50% stake in Wind Energy Pozzallo S.R.L., the company behind the project, which is currently undergoing authorization by the Italian Ministry of the Environment.

This venture aims to significantly boost Italy's renewable energy capacity, aligning with national decarbonization targets. The project is expected to prevent over 780,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually and support the local economy during its construction phase, projected to last three years, and throughout its operational life of at least 30 years.

Marco Stangalino, Edison's Vice President and Power Asset Director, emphasized the strategic importance of this agreement in accelerating Edison's renewable energy growth plan, which aims to expand their green capacity from 2 GW to 5 GW by 2030.

Wind Energy Pozzallo will utilize the expertise of Edison and Blunova for project engineering and other tasks throughout the authorization phase.
