Dogger Bank wind farm pledges £25 million to coastal communities

Dogger Bank Wind Farm has announced a £25 million commitment to support coastal communities in North and North-East England over its 35-year operational lifespan. This investment aims to enhance STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) education, equipping young people with skills for a net-zero future.

Building on a previous £1 million community fund, the new investment represents one of the largest community contributions by an offshore wind project in the UK. The fund will continue to support educational initiatives, including 30 annual scholarships for students studying STEM subjects.

Dogger Bank, the world's largest offshore wind farm, will produce enough renewable energy to power six million UK homes annually. It has already created or supported over 2,000 jobs in the UK and significantly contributes to the offshore wind industry.

The commitment includes contributions to the Coastal Communities Fund, supporting economic growth in coastal areas, and the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership, promoting industry advancement in the UK. RenewableUK's Chief Executive, Dan McGrail, highlighted the positive impact on local communities, creating opportunities and facilities through this funding.

Mark Halliday, Dogger Bank Operations Director, emphasized the fund's focus on developing local skills and supporting the levelling-up agenda. The investment will continue to be reviewed in collaboration with local educational experts to ensure it meets community needs.

Local organizations can apply for grants through the Dogger Bank website, furthering the long-term benefits for coastal communities.

Oliver Cass, Dogger Bank Project Director, underscored the importance of sustainable partnerships with local communities in delivering critical green energy infrastructure.
