Boskalis advances energy transition with offshore cable installation

Boskalis' cable-laying vessel, Giant 7, has begun installing the second nearshore export cable for TenneT's 700 MW offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust (west Beta). Following the successful installation of the first cable, Giant 7, in collaboration with the specialist burial sledge tool BSSIII, is now working on the second cable, ensuring the connection of the offshore wind farm to the onshore power grid.

The operation involves two export cables that are critical for the connection. Giant 7 and BSSIII are perfectly equipped for the task, handling the shallow waters of the North Sea and the beach area. Approximately four kilometres offshore, the cable-laying vessel Ndurance takes over to continue the installation, with the seabed trenches being dredged by the trailing suction hopper dredger Gateway.

In addition to the export cables, Boskalis will also install a 9-kilometre-long 66kV interconnector cable between the Hollandse Kust (west Alpha) and Hollandse Kust (west Beta) offshore connector platforms, further enhancing the infrastructure for the offshore wind farm.

This initiative by Boskalis exemplifies their commitment to advancing the energy transition and creating new horizons in renewable energy.
