Beatrice OTM2 work commenced

Beatrice Offshore Wind ltdWork has commenced on the installation of the second Offshore Transmission Module (OTM) topside at the Beatrice offshore wind farm in the Moray Firth, Scotland.

The foundations were installed, on behalf of BOWL, by Seaways Heavy Lifting using the heavy lift vessel, Oleg Strashnov, according to the latest notice of operations.

The Seajacks Krakenis set to arrive at the second OTM on the 8th of May to provide accommodation for the OTM2 commissioning. The Seajacks Hydrawill also perform the same duties for the first OTM.

According to BOWL 51 out of the 86 jackets which will support the substations and turbines have been installed. Array cable installation has also progressed, 22 array cables have been installed during second campaign so far.

Located in the Moray Firth, the Beatrice project will be Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm, comprising of 84 Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 turbines. The 588MW capacity array is expected to be capable of generating enough electricity to power approximately 450,000 homes. First power is currently scheduled for July 2018 with commissioning expected to follow in 2019.
