American Offshore Services (A-O-S) has announced the launch of the crew transfer vessel (CTV) M/V Generater, marking the second vessel in its G-Class series designed specifically for the U.S. offshore wind market. This series builds on Northern Offshore Services' (N-O-S) extensive experience in European waters.

"There is an urgent shortage of CTVs servicing offshore wind farms," said Michael Burbelo, Managing Director of A-O-S. The M/V Generater aims to address this need by transporting offshore wind technicians and equipment along the U.S. East Coast, contributing significantly to the industry's growth.

Designed to endure harsh North Atlantic conditions, the 99-foot, Jones Act-compliant catamaran ensures safe and reliable operations year-round. The vessel prioritizes crew comfort, enabling 24-hour offshore operations and ensuring technicians arrive rested and ready for work. "Our G-Class vessels are highly specialized, designed for superior sea performance," Burbelo added.

Key design features of the Generater include a soft bow, carefully sculpted hull, and proprietary fenders, enhancing its station-keeping ability in rough seas. The vessel's efficiency and maneuverability are optimized to use only the necessary power for various situations, making it self-sufficient and flexible for multiple voyages or extended offshore stays.

Developed by N-O-S over the past 16 years, these technological advancements position A-O-S as a pioneer in the U.S. CTV market. "In the U.S., this is a new class of crew transfer vessels," said David Kristensson, Group CEO of Northern Offshore Group. "We support the expansion of offshore wind with our proven technology and high standards."

The G-Class vessels are also hybrid-ready, allowing for quick conversion to new energy sources as the industry evolves. With two more vessels under construction, A-O-S anticipates continued fleet expansion. "Generater’s sister vessel, Gripper, has remained on contract every day since launch. We are just getting started," Burbelo concluded.
